Shoot faster. Think less. Capture more.

Zone focusing is the single biggest reason I almost never miss a decisive moment.

It’s fast, reliable, and doesn’t depend on autofocus—or even on looking through the viewfinder. For street photography, it's an essential skill. Yet so many photographers either overcomplicate it or never bother to try it properly.

In this post, I’ll walk you through how I use zone focusing in real shooting situations—what works, what doesn’t, and how to get comfortable with it on your next walk.

Spoiler: it’s not just “set it to f/8 and pray.” The magic comes in with knowing your lens, anticipating distance, and letting go of perfection.
